Aileen McColgan KC represented the University of Bristol in its appeal to the High Court against a county court decision in University of Bristol v Dr Robert Abrahart [2024] EWHC 299 (KB). The claim alleged that the University had discriminated on grounds of disability against a student who committed suicide. The student’s family appealed the decision of the county court that the University had not acted negligently. The High Court rejected the University’s appeal, making it clear that its decision turned on the particular facts of the case. It did not uphold the appeal on negligence.

Aileen led Paul Stagg, instructed by Kennedys Law.
