We are delighted to announce that James Goudie KC and Zac Sammour have been shortlisted for awards at the 2026 Bar Pro Bono Awards.
James Goudie KC has been shortlisted for Pro Bono KC of the year. James has been shortlisted following his involvement in Melki v Bouyguese E and S Contracting UK Ltd [2025] EWCA Civ 585], the first Court of Appeal case to consider the application of rule 37(5) of the EAT rules. James acted pro bono for the successful employee. James also worked on a complex and sensitive pro bono matter involving a campaign group formed by a group of members of the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme (the MPS). James acted pro bono instructed by Freshfields for the National Mineworkers’ Pension Campaign (NMPC). They represented a wider group of members of the MPS, advising them on a broad range of issues concerning legal, political and public relations matters regarding the distribution, maintenance and protection of MPS scheme assets.
Zac Sammour has been shortlisted for International Pro Bono Barrister of the Year. Zac’s nomination follows his pro bono work in high profile proceedings in the ICJ, and his involvement in R (on the application of Al-Haq) v Secretary of State for Business and Trade, which was also named in The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases of 2025, in which Zac undertook the majority of the international law advocacy for the claimant in both the Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal.
