James Goudie KC and Zac Sammour will be talking about local authority investments in light of the recent Supreme Court decision in R (on the application of Palestine Solidarity Campaign Ltd) v Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government [2020] UKSC 16. They will discuss the “quasi-fiduciary” duty that bind local authorities exercising investment powers, and the extent to which non-financial factors may be taken into account. They will also discuss the scope and exercise of local authority investment powers more generally, looking at areas of potential controversy and development.
