Postmasters are not workers

Cases

On 14 March 2022, the Employment Tribunal handed down judgment in Baker v Post Office, one of the Lawyer’s Top 20 cases of 2021.  The Tribunal concluded, in line with previous authority, that all 10 of the Test Claimant Postmasters were not “workers”.  Under their contracts postmasters had no duty of personal service. This represented the reality.

Christopher Jeans KCAndrew Edge and Judy Stone represented Post Office Ltd, instructed by Herbert Smith Freehills LLP.
