On Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 June 2026 the Court of Appeal will hear the appeal in the case of Aubrey Weis v Greater Manchester Combined Authority concerning whether Greater Manchester Combined Authority, under the leadership of Andy Burnham, gave an unlawful subsidy of £120 million in public money to a property developer to build two residential skyscrapers. It is the first case under the Subsidy Control Act 2022 to reach the Court of Appeal and will set a precedent for all future subsidy control cases in the UK.
