Joseph Barrett of 11KBW acted successfully for the Claimant, Houlder Limited, in its legal challenge to the process conducted by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to identify a specialist marine biologist organisation to operate the UK ‘science fleet’, including the RSS Sir David Attenborough (aka Boaty McBoatface). The Claimant issued legal proceedings challenging UKRI’s conduct of the process on grounds of procedural unfairness and irrationality. UKRI has now accepted that its process must be withdrawn and re-run, and will pay the Claimant’s cost.
