Caledonian Road Tube Station Closure Withdrawn

Cases

Following the issue of judicial review proceedings by the London Borough of Islington, Transport for London has withdrawn a decision for the temporary closure of Caledonian Road tube station. The closure was to permit refurbishment of the lifts at the station, and was due to take effect in March 2016. Islington Council contended that the station should not close, and instead each lift should be refurbished, in turn. The Council contended that TfL’s decision was unlawful because of a failure to comply with the public sector equality duty; and a failure to take account of relevant considerations. The Council also contended that that the decision was discriminatory and that it had been taken contrary to the Council’s legitimate expectation of consultation. A rolled up hearing had been listed for late February 2016. TfL has agreed to reconsider its decision.
