Julian Milford is instructed by Payne Hicks Beach to act for the Claimants in a judicial review of the Government’s consultation over whether to bring into force statutory incentives for the press to join an independent regulator, as recommended by the Leveson Inquiry, and whether to continue with Part 2 of the Inquiry, which would examine among other matters the facts concerning improper relationships between the press and the police. The Claimants assert that the Consultation is unlawfully biased, and that the Government has resiled from previous promises to bring statutory incentives into force, and continue with Part 2 of the Inquiry.
