Omorogbe v Evbunwen and Kasim – Human Trafficking for Domestic Servitude

22/07/10

Participating in a pro bono scheme with North Kensington Law Centre, Kalayaan and the Poppy Project, Harini represented a victim of human trafficking for the purposes of domestic servitude, who had brought employment claims after escaping, in a bitterly-disputed four-day hearing. Harini’s client was successful in her claims of direct race discrimination, racial harassment including physical assault, failure to pay the national minimum wage, unauthorized deduction from wages and failure to provide employment particulars. The Tribunal heard evidence from witnesses from Kalayaan and the Poppy Project on behalf of the Claimant, as well from as the Claimant herself, and its findings of fact include conclusions about the practical effects of human trafficking upon victims.
