Information Law with a New Parliament and Recent law Update Seminar

11KBW is delighted to announce a seminar on Information Law, to be held on Wednesday 19th May 2010.

Our speakers are Timothy Pitt-Payne and Anya Proops.

Tim will speak on Information Law in the new Parliament. He will identify possible future developments relating to such issues as: the scope of freedom of information and other information access rights; the use by Government of large databases of personal information; monitoring and surveillance by public authorities; and employment vetting, in particular under the ISA scheme. This will be a highly topical presentation, taking account of the General Election and any subsequent developments

Anya will provide a FOIA/EIR update focusing on a number of important recent decisions including:

• IC v Ofcom (Supreme Court judgment on aggregating the public interest under r. 12 EIR)
• East Riding v IC & York Place (accessing property search information under the EIR - consideration will also be given to the recent High Court Judgment in OneSearch Direct v City of York Council)
• Higher Education & Funding Commission for England v IC (application of confidential information exemption to information about Higher Education buildings)
• University of Central Lancashire v IC (application of commercial interests exemption and prejudice to public affairs exemption to university course work materials)
• South Gloucestershire v IC (application of confidential information and commercial interests exemptions to external consultants' reports commissioned by local authority)
• Department of Health v IC & Pro-Life Alliance (application of the personal data exemption to abortion statistics)

The seminar will be held in the Bridewell Suite, Crowne Plaza, 19 New Bridge Street, London, EC4V 6DB. Registration is from 5.45pm with the seminar starting at 6pm and finishing at 7.15pm. The seminar is free of charge.
